Public transport businessmen have given a 7-day ultimatum to the Gandaki state government to cancel the ride-sharing regulations. The National Federation of Nepal Transport Professionals, Gandaki and transport-related organizations submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary Raghuram Bista on Thursday and gave the government time until May 14.
The businessmen have demanded that the decision to issue the regulations should be returned after a re-decision and that a concrete policy of the state government should be written in relation to public vehicle operation method, import policy etc. .
If the regulation is not repealed within the time given to the government, Kedar Poudel, coordinator of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Professionals, said that the transport vehicles will be stored in garages from May 15. The demand was not heard until May 14. If the government moves ahead accordingly, we will be forced," he said.
If the demand is not met, the businessmen are preparing to stop the transport service in Gandaki province first and then stop the service all over the country from May 16. He said that contrary to the Vehicle and Transport Management Act 2049, vehicles with red number plates should not carry passengers and if they do carry passengers, they should have black plates.
The Gandaki state government published the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations 2082 in the state gazette on May 1. Transport professionals held a vigilance meeting at Prithvi Chowk in Pokhara on Thursday against the release of regulations.
After the warning meeting, they went to the office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers to submit the memorandum. Since he is the Chief Minister of Kathmandu, he submitted the memorandum to the Chief Secretary. Prakash Bahadur KC, Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport, is also not in the ministry.
