Electricity supply has started in 12 households of the remote Bullingtar Rural Municipality, which were left without electricity when the electric pole was knocked down by the storm a week ago.
According to Dipendra Sunari, chairman of the remote mountainous Bulingtar rural municipality, 1,200 houses in Ward No. 1, 2 and 3 were left without electricity due to the windstorm on May 31 and May 1.
On Monday, electricity supply to the houses of all those wards started by picking up the fallen poles. Sunari said that electricity has been supplied to all the houses since Tuesday morning.
According to Kamal Vakawal, Ward Chairman of Ward No. 2, electricity supply was opened with the help of employees, contractors and locals of Kawasoti Electricity Authority, which is about 41 km away from the place where the pole fell. "Seven days after reporting that the electric pole had fallen on the mountain, the light was turned on after the staff came and put the workers to work," he said.
Kaski's Lekhnath branch has supplied electricity to Bulingtar, a remote hilly area bordering Tanhu in eastern Nawalparasi. "From here, Paik is closer to Kawasoti than Lekhnath Municipality, Kawasoti is also Kawasoti," Vakawal said, "Now I have written a letter on Tuesday requesting to make arrangements from Kawasoti branch for electricity supply here."
Even to pay the electricity fee here, one has to go to the Kawasoti branch of the Electricity Authority, which is 41 km away. "Those who know have started paying the toll amount through mobile phones," Wakawal said, "those who don't use internet and mobile banking are forced to go to Kawasoti to pay the monthly toll."
He told that since there is no electricity office in Bullingtar, even for general maintenance, one has to go to the Kawasoti electricity office which is about 41 kilometers away.
