The team of the Department of Archeology is studying the ruins for 10 days. Navaraj Adhikari, who came to the study from the Department of Archeology, said that preliminary studies showed that there are ruins of the temple built in the 17th or 18th century.
'It is a ruin of archaeological importance, the foundation is about 70 cm wide,' he said, 'We think that it must be a two-story temple, even though it is a Ram temple in this area, it seems that some parts of the structure have been penetrated.
In May last year, while digging the foundation for the reconstruction of the temple of Latteshwar Mahadev, years old bricks were found while uprooting the root of the peepal tree in the south-eastern part. The archeology department started the study after finding old ruins with silt at the root of Peepal while digging the foundation for the reconstruction of the brick and temple. The official said that the study is still pending.
"It may be a temple made of a mixture of stones, bricks and mud with a thatched roof, we have also found some fragments of thatched roof," he said, "it is impossible to be sure without a detailed study."
He told that all studies are not finished immediately. The Department of Archeology will take a decision on how to preserve it only after all the studies are completed, he said, "Now we leave it covered so that the evidence will not be destroyed by sun, rain, wind and human activities. He said that now only the excavation is done and he has received a 10-day mandate from the department for the study.
According to the Ancient Monuments Protection Act-2013, 100-year-old structures are considered archeological. Based on the assumption that the structure was built around the 17th/18th century, the Department of Archeology has started studying it with special priority. Kamal Pokharel, Chairman of Mahadevasthan Preservation and Development Committee, said that after the temple of Latteshwar Mahadev built in 2030 became dilapidated, the old ruins were found during the reconstruction.
