Objections of transport operators and labor organizations to ride sharing regulations

Public transport businessmen and labor organizations have objected to the regulations regarding ride sharing (regulation and management) brought by the Gandaki state government. After the government issued the regulations, a joint meeting was held between the representatives of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Professionals and the representatives of transport workers' organizations on Thursday.

The meeting has decided to demand its immediate repeal as the regulations have been introduced contrary to the current Vehicle and Transport Management Act 2049. They have warned that they will not drive vehicles if the regulations are not repealed. "Gandaki provincial government will be responsible for the inconvenience caused by this by informing about the practice that public vehicles will be parked in garages and forced to protest if the regulations issued by the provincial government are not revoked immediately, objecting to the illegal actions taken by the provincial government," said the joint statement issued after the meeting.

Nepal Transport Independent Workers' Organization Gandaki, All Nepal Transport Workers' Union Gandaki, Nepal Transport Workers' Association Gandaki and Integrated Transport Workers' Organization Gandaki have signed the statement. Earlier on Wednesday, Nepal National Meter Taxi Traders and Driver Service Society Kathmandu and Public Transport Central Federation of Nepal demanded to cancel the regulation.  Self-drive operators (car rental companies) have thanked the state government for issuing

regulations.

On Thursday, the self-drive operating team met the Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management Prakash Bahadur KC and thanked the government. They thanked the government with the expectation that the problem of having to take action while renting private vehicles will be removed after the implementation of the regulations.

The provincial government's cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to approve the regulations prepared to regulate ride-sharing and rental vehicles.
