It is recommended to increase the quota of 1300 quintals of rice in North Gorkha's Chumling and Namrung sales centers targeting the dry season.
In order to maintain food security during the rainy season, the meeting of the District Food Management Committee held on Monday requested the Central Office of the Food Management and Trade Company Limited to provide more quota.
Ranjana KC, head of Gorkha branch of Food Management and Trading Company Limited, said that the quota of rice allocated for the current financial year has been shipped to Chumling and Namrung sales centers. Quota was approved in two sales centers at the rate of 750 quintals this year.
'Next year's rice will be delayed when it is transported, it may arrive in August or October when the contract is processed,' she said. We have recommended for more quota based on the demand of the rural municipality.
Chumanuvri Rural Municipality made a decision in the executive meeting on 15th Baisakh and sent a letter to the Gorkha branch of the company on 16th Baisakh to increase the quota. Considering the geographical complexity, the rural municipality has requested to increase the quota as it is an area with no access to transportation.
It is mentioned in the letter that the demand for rice received for this year is also high. The rural municipality has demanded to arrange the transportation and delivery of iodized salt to the relevant sales center like rice. There has been a demand for more quota of rice transportation as the road may be blocked during the monsoon and there may be a risk of food crisis.
