As there is no prison in East Nawalparasi, the defendants and prisoners sentenced by the court have to be sent to the neighboring districts of Chitwan and West Nawalparasi.
After the federalization, Savik's Nawalparasi district was divided into East and West Nawalparasi. There is no prison in East Nawalparasi after Savik's prison is in West Nawalparasi. As a result, the police have to run prisons for pre-trial and the management of prisoners who have to run prisons after the final decision of the district court has been facing problems.
When prisoners and defendants are taken outside the district, there are security challenges, lack of manpower and lack of vehicles for transportation.
According to Superintendent of Police Yadav Dhakal, Chief of Police of District Police Office East Nawalparasi, 34 people were sent to West Nawalparasi and 79 people to Bharatpur Jail in Chitwan in 2079/80. In 2080/81, 24 people were sent to West Nawalparasi and 64 people were sent to Bharatpur Jail. In the current financial year, 36 people have been sent to Paschim Nawalparasi, 56 people to Bharatpur Jail, 5 people to Pokhara Child Correctional Home and 1 person to Bhairawa Child Correctional Home.
'Since there is no jail in the district, the police have a problem in transporting defendants and prisoners. "We don't even have a vehicle to transport the prisoners because they have to be transported far," Police Superintendent Dhakal said.
In some cases, there is also a compulsion to take the counters to neighboring districts in public vehicles. Most of the government offices in the district are in rented houses. Even though all the government offices in the model headquarters are planned to be built in one place, sensitive offices like prisons have not been prioritized.
