Sale of potatoes worth 41 lakhs from the festival

Potatoes worth 41 lakh rupees were sold at the National Hemza Potato Festival held in Pokhara.

Local potatoes were put on sale at the 11-day long festival organized by Bishnupaduka Youth Club in Pokhara Metropolitan City-25 Hemja. Secretary of the club Hikmat Bahadur Thapa informed that there was a turnover of more than 4 million rupees at the

festival.

Of that, 97,600 kilos of potatoes worth 41 lakh rupees were sold. Potatoes were traded at Rs 42 per kg at the festival. A mountain of potatoes was built to sell potatoes. Potatoes produced in Hemja are highly preferred as they are tasty and quick to ripen.  In the

festival, buying and selling of vegetables other than potatoes, selling potato dishes, soil and plant testing, agricultural equipment exhibition and information on disease diagnosis and cultural programs related to farmers and agriculture were held.  In the

festival, there were 30 and 120 commercial stalls for agriculture. On the occasion of the festival, local farmers Vijay Ranamgar, Harikumar Pariyar and Ganga Bahadur Karki who rear bulls have been honored with 10 thousand rupees each. 

Born in Hemja, linguist Mukundasharan Upadhyay was also honored for his contribution to the field of Nepali language literature. Manjudevi Gurung, deputy head of Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, concluded the

festival on Wednesday. She said that the festival, which has become a brand of Pokhara, has succeeded in promoting local products.
