The contract employees who were removed from Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality have locked the health department. The contract health workers struggle committee has locked the health department in Shishuwa, Pokhara, on Tuesday, with 9 demands including the implementation of the short-term interim order of the court.

The protesting employees have demanded to implement the order of the court, not to make the health division without health workers, to implement the fundamental rights of health, to cancel the appointment of 3 employees who were appointed without competition on the basis of 'goodwill', to reinstate the expelled health workers, to guarantee the legal rights of the health workers-employees on service contracts, to maintain institutional governance and the rule of law in the metropolitan city, to implement organization and management, and not to hire new contracts instead of contracts.

The special council meeting of the metropolitan city on November 28 decided not to renew contract employees after the end of the year. After that, the Administration Division of the Metropolitan Municipality sent a letter to the Health Division on December 21 not to renew the contract employees. According to this decision, 61 health workers-employees of the division were removed. After this, the matter reached the Pokhara High Court, and the court refused to grant an interim order. On January 11, 59 health workers filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court issued a short-term interim order on January 13 as per the demands of the health workers.

Sangharsh Samiti member Vishal Paudel said that the lockdown was imposed after not hearing even after drawing attention to it earlier. He claimed that if contract employees were to be removed, all of them should be removed. Removing contract employees means removing all employees! 61 people from health and 2/3 people from administration,' he said, 'even if the court gives an order, it does not mean that they will not agree to implement it.'

In the writ registered on January 11, Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, City Council, Health Division, Post Pursuit Committee, Chief Administrative Officer, State Public Service Commission have been made opponents. After Mayor Dhanraj Acharya's assurance of appointment, 3 of the petitioners withdrew their petitions. The filing of this writ has been fixed on the 18th of June.
