Khaje Dura, who played a role in ousting the Ghale Raja of Lamjung by bringing Kulamandan Shah's son Yashobraham Shah from Kaski and making him king, has been demanded to be declared a national hero. Dura Seva Samaj made this demand during its 32nd anniversary celebration.

During the anniversary ceremony held in Madhya Nepal Municipality-10 Handikhola of Lamjung, which is dominated by the Dura caste, they made a demand to Information and Communication Minister Prithvisubba Gurung. Speaking at the anniversary, the leader of the Dura caste discussed that Khaje Dura should be declared a national monument as he has made a great contribution not only for the Dura caste but also for the state.

The central president of the society, Suresh Kumar Dura, told that the Dura caste has been in Nepal since 1550. According to him, Khaje Dura first wanted to remove the Ghale Raja from Kaski by bringing Kalu Shah, the eldest son of Kulamandan Shah, to Lamjung and make him the king. He was also accompanied by Kushumakar Ghimire. But Ghale Raja killed Kalu Shah on the way. Khaje Dura again brought Kulamandan's youngest son Jashambhu (Yashobraham) Shah who was one and a half years old and placed him on the throne. Bal Bahadur Dura, the central vice president of the society, complained that the Dura caste was being overshadowed by the state. Speaking at the

anniversary ceremony, Information and Communication Minister Prithvisubba Gurung said that he will do his best to declare Khaje Dura as a national monument. For the time being, he promised to publish and broadcast news in Dura language as well as to publish postage stamps of Deubahadur Dura, the founder of Lamjunge Thado Vaka. "The government is now reading news in 25 languages on Radio Nepal and publishing news in Gorkhapatra in 45 languages," he said, "Now please submit a request to make the 26th and 46th languages separate languages."

He said that the development of language and script will save the existence of the Dura caste when it is in an endangered state. Stating that the activities of royalists have increased in recent times, he said that federalism has come only for the minority castes and requested them not to go towards royalists. "Federalism is what preserves the culture of minority castes, not monarchism," he said, "so don't follow the king."

He insisted on the need to make the youth security agencies and civil servants for the upliftment of the endangered caste and also for economic and social harmony. "The state is also serious about the fact that parents are forced to remove their original and real caste when they write Gurung in order to get a pension and join the British Army," he said.
