Due to the incessant rain this morning, the Butwal-Narayangadh road section has been completely blocked due to the flooding of the Vinayi Khola diversion at Dumkiwas of Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta East) under the East-West Highway.
District administration office and district police office have requested to use alternative route after the traffic was blocked.
According to Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Yadav Dhakal of District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta East), all the nine culverts placed in the diversion were swept away by the flood in Vinayi river. As the road cannot be repaired and operated immediately until the flow of water subsides, it is difficult to resume traffic at least until tomorrow evening.
SP Dhakal said, 'The flow of the river has increased a lot and the diversion has been completely washed away. It is not possible to build a temporary road until the water recedes. Therefore, this section cannot be repeated immediately.'
For the convenience of passengers, the police has asked to use an alternative route. East-west traveling vehicles are requested to use Gaindakot-Rampur-Kaligandaki corridor road.
However, according to the police, only small vehicles can be operated on the said corridor road section today (Saturday). It is said that all types of vehicles will be able to operate only from tomorrow (Sunday) as the road cleaning work is ongoing.
Similarly, vehicles going east from Butwal to Kathmandu, Jhapa, etc. are advised to travel via Syangja (Ramadi, Galyang) or Palpa (Rampur) and leave Ghindakot.
SP Dhakal informed that he and a team of road technicians and engineers along with Chief District Officer Bhavishwar Pandey inspected the flood-affected Binayi river and Daunne road section. He said that the technical team is discussing the measures that can be taken immediately.
During the expansion of the Narayangadh-Butwal road section of the Mahendra Highway, a temporary diversion was made about 4 months ago due to the construction of a bridge over the Vinayi river.
