For maternal and child health protection, Byas Municipality of the district has taken forward the 'Women with Deputy Mayor Program'. In order to improve the health of mothers and babies, the municipality has started providing nutritional allowance facilities to women who undergo pregnancy tests at government health institutions.

Baikuntha Neupane, head of Vyasa Nagar, said that this program was introduced to encourage health check-ups because if pregnant women do not have a health check-up and give birth at home, the health of both the mother and the baby may suffer. He said, 'In order to improve the health of mothers and babies and to spread awareness that pregnant women should undergo health check-ups from time to time, the deputy mayor program has been launched with women.' Indira Darai, deputy head of the city, said that those who receive check-ups and delivery services in the government health institutions within the municipality have been given nutritional allowances. She said, "We have prioritized the health safety of both mothers and babies." In order to encourage pregnant women to check their pregnancy from time to time and reduce the infant mortality rate, incentive nutrition money has been given.' Government health institutions within the municipality will provide Rs 5,000 each to women who are pregnant at least three times (4, 6 and 8 months) in 8 months on the basis of the Maternal Shishu Card.

To get this facility, you have to submit a certificate of permanent residence and marriage registration in Beyas municipality. The municipality has distributed incentive money of 19 lakh 80 thousand rupees to 396 pregnant women in the last financial year and 166 people in the current financial year. According to the municipality's policy of encouraging childbirth in health institutions, the number of people coming to health institutions for tests and deliveries has increased after the distribution of nutritional allowance.

Similarly, with the financial support of the municipality, wages have been provided to gynecologists and anesthetists to continue the surgical services of pregnant women at the Damauli Hospital located at the district headquarters. In addition, free ambulance facilities have been provided to take pregnant women to the hospital and take them home.
