Abuwa-Pauwatar road work 15 percent in one year

The Abuwa-Virdi-Sera-Pauwatar road, which has been contracted to complete the road within two years, has been delayed. So far, only 15 percent of the work agreed on in March 2024 has made physical progress. M/S VBEPL-ACPL JV started the work by signing a contract with Pokhara for rural road network improvement project, project implementation unit.

Mohan Bhattarai, engineer of the unit, said that the contract for construction of 15.551 km of canals from Abuwa to Pauwatar, upgrading of roads and tarpaulin for 306 million 61 million has been 15 percent for one year and the progress of financing is only 10 percent.

"In the first 7/8 months, the work was very slow, but after two months, the work has gained intensity," he said. Locals say that it is difficult to complete the work on time when the construction company delays the work at the initial stage. Locals expressed concern that the progress of the road, which was contracted to be completed within 24 months, is disappointing.

Cutting and construction of drains are currently being done for black paper. The road will be 5.5 meters wide. Residents of Gorkha Municipality-13 and 14 and Palungtar Municipality-9 and 6 will benefit after the road is blacked out. The ward chairman of Palungta Municipality-9 Vejraj Pandey also said that the work has intensified recently.

"The work has progressed faster than before," he said. "This is the main road in this area, wherever we go to Gorkha Bazar, Abu Khaireni, we go through this road. Now the contract has been signed, it will be easy if there is a black paper on time," he said.

The construction of the road has started with the loan support of the Asian Development Bank. The road will be paved with DVST technology. For the current financial year, 12 million rupees have been allocated for Utt Road. Almost three decades after the opening of the track, the locals said that the road is about to be paved.

Ward Chairman Pandey said that the work should be accelerated to complete the road construction on time. Locals have been demanding to complete the road construction work on time and to pay attention to the quality. After the construction of the road, it will be easy for the locals of this area to reach Pokhara through the new bridge as an alternative route.
