"Koseli Ghar" is going to be built in the exhibition center at Nayabazar in Pokhara. With the financial support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Koseli House will be built under the green job creation project through recycling and upcycling in Pokhara.
Dhanraj Acharya, Chief of Pokhara Metropolitan City of Koseli House, Deputy Chief Manjudevi Gurung, Mohen Kong, Country Director of Koika Nepal, Christopher Bahait, Regional Director of UNDP, Asia, jointly laid the foundation stone on Monday.
There is an agreement that COICA will invest 9.8 million US dollars and UNDP will invest 0.87 million US dollars in the green job creation project . The project aims to produce new products from waste along with processing non-biodegradable waste . Under the budget of the project, International Engineering and Construction Company Kathmandu has taken charge of the construction of Koseli House in 1 year 6 months.
Mayor Acharya expressed his belief that the project will contribute significantly to the creation of green jobs and the creation of a circular economy. He said that while waste management is becoming a big challenge, the plan to turn it into money will play a role in community empowerment. The chief Acharya said that the recycled waste will be connected with empowerment through 136 groups. He claims that more than 3,000 direct/indirect jobs will be created in the first phase of the project.
Country Director of Koika Nepal, Mohen Kong, asserted that this project will prove to be a milestone in developing green job creation as a model through recycling and upcycling in the tourist capital. According to Kong, green job creation has come forward as a very effective project in the world.
The Asia Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Christopher Bahait, said that the project will help create green jobs by developing the capacity of entrepreneurs. He said that financial, technical and market assistance will be provided by establishing a Green Venture Zone (GVZ) through the project.
