The Nepal Students' Union has demonstrated at the Institute of Engineering Studies (Western Campus) demanding that the candidacy for the post of secretary should be maintained in the Independent Students' Union (SWAVIU) elections. The Navy Union protested by burning tires at the campus gate on Monday evening. The protesting group raised slogans such as 'Bring back our secretary', 'Campus administration death'.

As part of the election process, nomination papers were distributed on the campus on February 26. On that day, 6 people including Aneraswaviyu, Navy Sangh, Akhil (revolutionary) and 3 independent candidates took nomination papers. 1 independent candidate with all 3 organizations submitted their nomination papers to the election officer's office on February 27. Due to internal disputes, the Navy had to submit torn nomination papers.

Kushal Sapkota and Prashant Joshi were aspirants for the post of Secretary from the Navy Association. When Joshi filled the nomination form, the Sapkota party tore it up. Joshi submitted the two-part nomination paper to the election committee. The election committee decided to cancel it. The campus unit of the Navy is in favor of going to the election even without a secretary, while the central committee is in favor of not contesting the election without a secretary.

We are of the opinion that there should be a secretary candidate. However, that should not stop the election process," he told Ikantipur. Pandit claimed that there was no participation and support of the Union Campus Unit in the demonstration at the campus gate.

The student organizations in the campus have published a joint statement on Monday and demanded elections. The President of the Union Sangh unit Saugat Pandit, Aneraswawiyu President Bhuvan Dangi, All (Revolutionary) President Naveen Shrestha and independent candidate Prakash Dhami have demanded that the Swawiyu elections should be held regardless of the election results.  After protesting by burning tires, some students of the Navy started a relay fast at the gate.
