The police have arrested the leader of the United Samajwadi Party, Bishnu Giri, on the charge of raping a 14-year-old girl. Syangja Police arrested 51-year-old Giri from Putlibazar Municipality-14 in Syangja.
Syangja Police Chief SP Shaligram Sharma said that based on the arrest warrant of Kaski police, Giri was arrested from his house in Syangja on 20th and handed over to Kaski police.
District Court Kaski issued an arrest warrant to the police on February 2. Based on the arrest warrant of the court, the Kaski police had written to the Syangja police on February 13 to arrest and assist them. Giri was handed over to the Kaski police after the Syangja police arrested him on the 20th. The incident is of 2080 October .
Giri, who is also the vice-president of Gandaki province of the United Samajwadi Party and the president of Syangja district, was accused of rape on October 80. According to the statement given by the victim girl to the police, he had been trying to rape her several times. Kaski police started investigation after the victim girl lodged a complaint with the police on February 1. Kaski Police Chief SP Shyambabu Olia said that after receiving the information, he took the arrest warrant from the court.
Kaski police filed a coercion case on the 21st and extended the deadline by 6 days from the District Court Kaski, with effect from the 20th of the day Giri was arrested, said SP Olia. The girl is now in the care of an organization.
