Schools in Upper Manang, closed for 3 months, opened from Sunday

After about 3 months of closure, schools in Upper Manang have started to open from Sunday. After the annual examination, schools were closed from the last week of December.

Every year in Upper Manang, after completing the annual examination, the teachers leave the school early on December 21-22 and late on December 25-26. As it snows at this time, the local residents and workers fall down.

Anandraj Ghimire, headmaster of Annapurna High School in Manang village of Upper Manang, said that the schools have opened since Sunday. "Though the school is open, not all the students have come," he said, "teachers and friends are coming."

Ghimire said that although it was decided to open the school from Friday on the 16th, since Friday and Saturday were holidays, the school was opened from Sunday.

Navin Chettri, administrative officer on behalf of the rural municipality, said that there are 9 schools in Manang Ngisyang rural municipality, including a high school up to 10th grade.

According to Dhruv Prasad Koirala, the head of Education Development and Coordination Unit Manang, schools in Narpabhumi and Phu villages have not opened. As it is very cold in that place now, the locals go to the river.

Schools in Chame Rural Municipality, which is also the headquarters, and Nason Rural Municipality in Lower Manang have been open since the last week of January. Those schools were closed from the first week of January. Lower Manang is colder than the capital Chame and Chame in Tulan in Upper Manang and Narpabhumi.

There are 4 secondary schools in Manang, 2 of which teach up to class 12 and 2 of which teach up to class 10. There are 22 other basic schools.
