After the collapse of the bridge at Dumkibas of East Nawalparasi under the East-West Highway, traffic is now being operated through diversion. Keeping in mind the risk of rainy season, the construction of a new bridge has also been accelerated as an alternative.
A new bridge is being constructed at the same place where the bridge was washed away during the Narayangadh Butwal road expansion. The project said that the project is currently working to complete the under construction bridge as it will take a lot of time to repair the washed out bridge. The slope of the first span of the 250 meter long bridge has been completed.
Shiv Khanal, information officer of Narayangadh Butwal Road Extension Project East Section, said that the work is being done at a fast pace with the aim of building and operating vehicles before the coming rainy season.
The bridge was damaged last December when an Indian truck was carrying an overload.
Meanwhile, work on the Narayangadh Butwal road section has intensified. So far, 57 percent of the work has been completed in both the sections. The deadline has been extended till July 8, 2082. The contract was signed by dividing the 114 km road project into 2 sections. Currently, the road is being paved in the east and west sections. Bridge and culvert construction work is also going on in the downstream section.
