On the occasion of 'People's War' Day, the Tarakhola Rural Municipality here is going to give a public holiday on February 1.
Dhan Bahadur Bik, chairman of the rural municipality, informed that Monday's executive meeting decided to give leave to all the bodies within the municipality. Tarakhola used to celebrate People's War Day in previous years as well. Suryalal Bik, the chief administrative officer, has also sent a letter to the rural municipality, all ward offices, educational institutions, health and cooperative organizations as per the decision of the executive.
Tarakhola of Baglung was the most affected place in the armed conflict conducted by the then Maoists. There are more than 25 martyrs and there is still a long list of missing and injured. In their honor, it is also customary for the rural municipality to commemorate the Martyr's Week. In the local elections, the Maoists have been winning in Tarakhola.
