The fire spread in the Timang forest of Manang was not brought under control

Chame rural municipality-1 Timang village of Himalayan district Manang has not been able to bring the fire under control.

The Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police, Annapurna Conservation Area Project, Division Forest Office staff as well as local residents have tried to control it, but they have not been successful.

Chief District Officer Matrika Acharya said that the fire that had spread in the forest since January 19 could not be brought under control for 10 days. According to him, the fire seemed to be under control a few days ago. He said that he had forgotten again. According to him, even on Monday, security personnel, ACAP, forest personnel and local residents have gone to the forest to control the fire.

Ward President Khadga Bahadur Gurung said that the land is completely dry and the forest is spreading because there is no snow. The head of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (A CAP) Manang, Dhak Bahadur Bhujel, said that the fire spreading in the area with a height of about 3,000 meters could not be brought under control. According to him, the fire is not visible as the weather cools down in the evening and after 11 o'clock in the afternoon, the fire flares up because of the wind. He said that due to the fire, trees, plants, nests and habitats of birds were destroyed.

The chief district officer Acharya said that it was not possible to get certain information about how many areas have been burnt in the Timang forest. According to him, a few days ago, the satellite showed fire in 2 places in Manang, but it showed that the fire spread in an area of 80 hectares, but he estimated that the fire was in an area of 10 hectares.

According to DSP Naresh Kumar Singh of District Police Office Manang, there is no problem in the settlement from Dadhelo. However, he said that there is a possibility that the fire may come to the forest above Chame, the headquarters. He said that there is a risk that the wind could spread the fire due to the prevailing wind. According to the Manang administration, a fire line has been constructed to control the fire and prevent it from coming towards the settlement.
