The 140 megawatt Tanahun hydropower project under construction at Rishing Rural Municipality-1 Jhaputar in Tanahun has constructed a resting place for vulture conservation. 'Giddha Aram Sthal' has been constructed for the protection of vultures, which are known as natural predators.
Shyamji Bhandari, head of the project, said that a vulture resting place has been built in the Cow Conservation Center premises at Dumsi Bhateri, Beas Municipality-10, so that the habitat of the endangered vulture is not affected due to the project under the Wildlife Protection and Public Awareness Plan.
"The project has installed five telescopic poles in the premises of the center using local resources and tools," he said, "Each pole has an iron arm for the vulture to sit on." Because of the iron arm, the arm is covered with wood to make it safe without any negative impact on the vulture.'
According to him, a wooden cover is placed on the top of the pole. In which vultures can live safely. These poles are installed to allow vultures to come for food and rest after eating.
A cow protection center is running on the banks of the Madi river, which is about 6 km from Damauli market, on the initiative of Vyas. Old and abandoned cattle in the municipal area have been brought to the center operating on about 200 ropani land. When a cow dies, it is kept in the hole there, so vultures come there for food. Vultures are large carnivorous birds in the group of predatory birds, they only eat the meat of dead animals, i.e. carnivores, without hunting themselves.
The vulture was previously forced to feed in a conservation center in an unsafe manner. Due to the 33 KV transmission line passing from that place, vultures coming for feeding and flying after feeding used to hit the line and die.
In order to prevent the vultures from dying by hitting the transmission line, the project has changed the location of the pit where the dead cattle are dumped and installed a pole near it and constructed a resting place. According to the project, this will help to increase public awareness to protect vultures and protect the habitat and develop it as a vulture safe area.
