Installation of wind and water speed measuring device in Phewa Lake

With the aim of reducing accidents, the Armed Police has installed wind and water speed measuring devices in Pokhara's Fewatal. A 'Wind Sensor Device' has been installed in the rescue watch tower of APF located in Phewatal.

Ganapati Arun Kumar Sharma of Armed Police Force Kalika Gana Kaski informed that the device has been installed at a cost of Rs.

After taking approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Finance, with the help of the International Integrated Mountain Development Center (ECMOD), SP Sharma said that the wind and water speed measuring device has been installed. "Testing is going on now," SP Sharma said, "It will be fully operational after ten days."

This device gives information about wind and water activity around Phewatal three hours in advance. Its screen has been placed in the rescue watch tower of APF and another screen has also been installed inside Kalika Gana. The armed police said that information can be obtained from two places.

Boating is banned when it is said that a storm is coming, he added, "There are many incidents of boats overturning due to the storm in Phewatal. Many people have lost their lives and a number of people have been injured.''

The wind coming from the Sarangkot side is considered more dangerous. Ganapati Sharma said that this equipment will prove to be a milestone for the enhancement of the armed police and Nepal's disaster response capacity from the point of view of information. Armed police rescue tower was installed in Phewatal in 2071. According to the police force, 10 armed policemen (trained) are stationed here daily from 6 am to evening (evening). It is said that the number will increase or decrease according to

requirements. Similarly, the 'APF rescue tower' is going to be built in Begnas lake at a cost of 50 lakhs by the Gandaki state government. SP Arun Kumar Sharma said that Infrastructure Development Office Kaski has issued a tender for this.

According to him, 'APF Rescue Center' will be built within Kalika Gana with the financial support of 50 lakhs from Pokhara metropolis. Police said that the metropolis has already invited tenders for this. After the rescue center comes into operation, information can be obtained about the incidents in Kaski district.

Vimala Gurung, who has been driving a boat in Fewatal for nine years, said that the boat is at risk due to sudden storms and rain. "When the wind comes at a high speed, there is a risk of the boat capsizing," says Gurung, "If we know in advance that the wind is coming, we can avoid the risk." She said that the boat driver will be safe along with the passengers.

Since February 2080, 47 people have been rescued in Fewtal since then. According to APF, 4 people were rescued after they died and 83 people were rescued alive. It has been reported that since the construction of APF's rescue tower in Fewatal, 471 people have been rescued, including 467 people alive and 4 dead.
