District Police Office Lamjung has collected 112 guns in a period of 3 months. The district administration office had issued a public notice to the district police office and subordinate offices stating that weapons that have not been renewed for 5 years will automatically become illegal.
According to the same notification, the weapons collected from the district police office, area police office, police station and other subordinate offices from last October 16 to December 23 have been released on Wednesday.
The police organized a press meet program at the district police office premises and said that they have collected 1 hundred and 7 Eknale Bharuva guns, 2 Eknale bridge loading rifles, 12 bore Duinale and 122 bore Hornet guns.
District Police Chief DSP Nishant Srivastava said that out of the 764 weapons that were to be recovered from the administration office, 112 were recovered. According to him, out of the 545 details received, only 470 details were received, he said. According to him, 219 weapons are being searched for, details of which are yet to be received.
According to the District Administration Office, 1,527 people in the district have taken weapons at different times. Chief District Officer Buddha Bahadur Gurung said that only about 300 of them have renewed. According to him, if the weapons are not renewed for 5 years, they will automatically become illegal, so he requested to hand over the illegal weapons to the police.
'We have collected 112 weapons during the campaign. If the police find illegal weapons during the search, they will be punished according to the law, he said. Earlier, during the election, illegal weapons were collected. The administration has been requesting that various individuals and organizations take permission to keep arms, but since the records of renewal have not been found, they should be renewed within the specified time.
Case against 2 people
The police recently filed a case against 2 people on the charge of possessing weapons without a license. A case has been filed against 50-year-old Mangale Periyar of Kholasothar Rural Municipality 9, Chappa and 24-year-old Varta Bahadur Tamang of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality 3, Tarikuna under the Arms and Weapons Theft Act.
Pariyar, who was arrested on October 25th after a homemade weapon was found hidden in Viralo Pakho, and Ekna, who was found hiding a loaded gun in the tar made for storing firewood in the house, was arrested on October 29th and the police initiated a case against Tamang.
The police investigated and submitted both of them to the district court for the crime of possession of arms under the Criminal Code-2074, and the court released them on bail at the rate of 1 lakh 25 thousand rupees.
