Chief Minister Surendra Pandey has said that all citizens will have access to health care. He said that until the citizens of rural areas get easy healthcare services, adding equipment to city hospitals will not be enough.
Inaugurating Burtiwang Hospital in Baglung on Friday, Pandey said that hospitals are needed in rural areas to reduce the cost of air lifting. Last year, the Gandaki provincial government rescued 67 pregnant women by helicopter during delivery, and 29 of them were seen in rural areas including Baglung, he said, expressing his belief that Burtiwang Hospital will reduce the cost of the provincial government. Pandey claimed that if the lives of the citizens can be saved, the economic development will be faster.
Gandaki state government has built hospitals in Baglung's Burtiwang and Gorkha's Anpipal this year. He said that even though the construction of these two hospitals will add 420 crores to the government, if the health of the citizens improves, the financial capacity will automatically increase. Pandey said that since the number of patients receiving dialysis services has decreased by getting treatment services on time, expenses can also be saved.
He said that the task of making good use of the hospital built and the equipment collected is for the local people. "Nowadays, there are more negative views than positive views, there are more people who comment than those who benefit from the work done," he said.
After the last year's decision, the Gandaki state government has started operating the hospital this year through ONM and increasing the manpower. In the year 2067, the then Baglung District Hospital was transformed into a regional hospital and there was no district hospital here. Even though the building is adequate, the district hospital was not built because of the manpower and the state policy. Since there was no district hospital, many services like free treatment, medicine, twenty-four hour service, OPD, emergency and family planning were cut.
The hospital has started health services including operations. The head of the hospital, Dr. Navindra Dhakal said. "From video X-ray to maternity services with basic infrastructure, operations have also come into operation," Dhakal said.
In Burtiwang, 90 km west of the capital, local Sita Kandel said that the service was delayed because the hospital was urgently needed. "We need a hospital not only for general treatment, but also for accident treatment," she said.
Drona Kunwar, a member of the Gandaki State Assembly, said that since the district hospital is the first base, the government is also paying attention to trauma. Health Minister of Gandaki Province Krishna Pathak has also stated that he is ready to add services according to the demand of the people.
There is a statistic that 700 people take delivery services here every year without becoming a hospital. According to Dhakal, up to 300 people come here daily for treatment. Currently, Dhakal is a pediatric specialist while MDGP Dr. Amreskumar Mahato is also working. The hospital has already started providing dental, eye treatment, video x-ray, gin export services for tuberculosis. According to Dhakal, up to 20 operations are being done here every month. More than 80 post-mortems are also held here every year. For the time being, preparations are being made to make a mortuary.
OPD, pregnant check-up, delivery services, basic lab, vaccination services, family planning services, tuberculosis and leprosy treatment services have also been conducted regularly. Without getting health services here, the locals have to go to Palpa, Butwal and Pokhara. Preparations have also been made here for blood transfusion services. Madhyapahari Lokmarg Baglung alone is 142 km. Burtiwang is also the service area of about 80 km of the said section. Chudamani Kandel, public health inspector of Dhorpatan Municipality, said that blood transfusion service is very necessary as many accident patients come here.
