Hanuman dance, which is danced only in Baglung city, is going to be registered as a world heritage by Baglung municipality. Mayor Basant Kumar Shrestha has announced that in the policy and program introduced in the 15th Municipal Assembly, the necessary work of cataloging Hanuman dance will be carried forward.
The Hanuman dance brought by the Newar community who came to Baglung from Bhaktapur 300 years ago is preserved in Baglung. There is also a suggestion from stakeholders that it is necessary to preserve and pass down the dance for the promotion of tourism.
It is called Hanuman dance because people dance in the form of monkeys. The dance is also linked to the promotion of tourism here. Since 14 couples dance at the same time, it is also considered as a dance that attracts tourists.
The municipality has put tourism promotion as the first priority. More than 1 million devotees visit the famous Baglung Kalika temple here every year. It is going to be linked with tourism promotion to make those devotees visit Baglung.
