Visual artist Rabindra Shrestha said, ”The young generation has made great sacrifices for a bright future. I did this work to remember that.”
What you should know
Rabindra Shrestha, who has been working in visual arts for six years, was seen in front of the main south gate of the Parliament Building in Baneshwor on Monday.
Shrestha, who prefers to show contemporary events through art, not only presented the people who sacrificed in the Gen-G movement through paintings, but also made those who came to see the art participate in it. He said, ‘The young generation has made great sacrifices for a bright future. I have done this work to remember that.’
There was a fingerprint on a large canvas. The thin lines of the fingerprints were black and white photos of those who were martyred in the Gen-G movement. And between those lines was a wavy, thin red line. Stating that this red line symbolically shows national unity, he said, ‘Even though our faces and backgrounds are different, the same blood flows in all of us, which gives life and strength to the young generation.’
He was asking those who came to see the painting to draw words on the same large canvas placed in front of the gate of the Parliament building. He had placed a small notice below the painting. It read – Let us pay tribute by drawing a picture of the kind that suits us.
He had already obtained written permission from the District Administration Office to exhibit his art in front of the gate of the Parliament building from 12 noon to 2 pm. He said, ‘It took two weeks to get this permission.’
