Actor Rajesh Hamal has said that Nepali cinema and journalism are complementary to each other. Speaking at a special function organized by the Film Journalists Association of Nepal on the occasion of ‘Film Journalism Day’, Hamal recalled the early days of film journalism.
Relating the first interview of his life, he said, ‘When I did my first film, an established journalist asked me, ‘What do you do for a living?’ At that time, the film industry was not seen as a profession, but only as a means of fulfilling one’s hobbies.’ However, he says that with the passage of time, both the film industry and journalism have taken a big leap forward.
Hamal expressed concern about the challenges posed by the current ‘click culture’ and technology. He said that attracting the attention of the reader in the current situation of information overload is the biggest challenge.
‘Today, we are at a point where we have to compromise on in-depth journalism. "The seriousness of the subject is being lost due to algorithms and the race to go viral," Hamal said.
He posed a serious question to journalists, indicating that it is becoming difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood due to artificial intelligence and misleading information.
