The Bhaktapur Film Festival is being held in Bhaktapur on Chaitra 6 and 7. A group of young filmmakers from Bhaktapur is organizing this festival for the first time.
A group of young filmmakers including Kiran Kilambu, Safal Vaidya, Smit Giri, Bikesh Prajapati, Saksham KC, Praveen Takki and others are organizing this festival. Festival director Kiran Kilambu said that this festival is being organized with the aim of developing the art and literature of Bhaktapur and providing a platform to new filmmakers.
‘Bhaktapur is also our birthplace. That is why we are organizing this festival for the first time in Bhaktapur with the aim of developing the culture and art here,’ Kilambu said. Festival director Kilambu has worked on films like ‘Kabbadi 4’, ‘Phulbari’, ‘Dimaag Kharab’, ‘Pheri Resham Philili’, ‘Degree Maila’, ‘etc. The festival will feature films ranging from Sujit Bidari's 'Aina Jhyalko Putali' to Ankit Poudel's 'Song of Clouds', Kiran Shrestha's 'At Another Winter', and Rajan Kathet and Sunir Pandey's documentary 'Dhorpatan'.
Sandesh Bhurtel's documentary 'Mother Rebecca' will be the closing film of the festival. Two films featuring Newa culture, 'Kija Puja' and 'Newa Buddhism in Nepal', will be screened at the festival.
Filmmaker Keshav Pandey is giving a workshop on story writing at the festival. He is going to give this workshop on the day before the festival starts. On this same Falgun 30, the festival is also organizing a 'Heritage Walk' in Bhaktapur in collaboration with Rushel Shilpakar. The festival is being held at the Nepal Vocational Academy in Kamalbinayak, Bhaktapur.
