Recently, the Beni-Jomsom-Korla road has become an attractive destination for film shooting as it has become easy to travel.
Since it is possible to come here from the federal capital Kathmandu in one day, the process of filming in different places of the district has increased. Also, with the ease of transportation of manpower, equipment and supplies for shooting various Hollywood, Bollywood and Kollywood films, film makers have been attracted to Mustang. Recently, it has been found that filmmakers are very eager to shoot in the isolated geography of
district. In recent years, it has been found that filmmakers have been struggling to capture the Himalayan range, natural geography, biological and cultural diversity as well as the attractive agriculture and animal husbandry culture here.
The Hindi film Khuda Gawah was shot in Mustang even in the then difficult situation of no road. Indian actor Amita Bachchan came and completed the shooting in Mustang even during the difficult situation of that time . However, the difficult situation at that time has completely changed now. Mohansingh Lalchan, chairman of Gharpazhong Rural Municipality, informed that the number of people coming to Mustang for filming is increasing because they can come to Mustang on the same day for shooting. He said that the local level collects limited revenue so that it is easy to shoot movies, music videos and documentary films of different countries in the district. He mentioned that the filming of this kind of film has greatly helped in the promotion of tourism here.
In the last five years, dozens of Nepali films, music videos and documentary films have been shot here. Kaligandaki Bagar of Mustang, centuries old monastery, mane, chorten, cave, taltalaiya as well as different natural beauty, the district is becoming a hub for film shooting . The Hindi film Khuda Gawah was shot in the
district in the 1940s. In the last five years, dozens of films such as Chino, Prem Geet, Sahalina Kahbi Mann, Kabaddi, Jerry, Badge Number Sixteen, Vakundo, Chiring etc. were shot in Mustang. Neeraj Thakali, Secretary of the Federation of Journalists of Nepal Tribal Tribes, said that shooting here has made a significant contribution to the tourism sector here. He said that through the medium of film, there has been a great help in exposing the art, culture, originality and heritage of this place.
Similarly, Arjun Prasad Pokharel, Vice President of Nepal Movie Technicians Association, who came to the district for film shooting, claimed that it is a suitable and easy destination for film shooting. Mentioning that the district is a heavenly district of Nepal, he said that if the government can establish a film studio in such a place, it will help in the economic prosperity of not only this area but also the entire Gandaki province. For this, he said, three levels of government need to take initiative.
There are dozens of small mountains here including Nilgiris and Dhavlagiris, all the mountains can be reached in a moment, hotels and transportation have become much easier than before, that's why 90 percent of the film crews will come and start shooting in this place . Vice President Pokharel said that he received great support from the local municipality and community for shooting the film here. He said that the lakes, monasteries, lakes, mountains, biological diversity and culture are important features in Mustang.
Sekung Lake, Bhutchho Lake and Titi Lake are located in Thasang, the lower region of Mustang. The beautiful coastal settlements of the Kaligandaki river and the herds of yaks grazing in the Khark make the film even more beautiful. Ancient culture can be observed in Marfa, Thini, Syang and Jomsom tourist cultural villages in Gharapzhong Rural Municipality. Dhumbatal and Kshamatal are located in this municipality. Filming has been done at Muktinath Temple, Kagbeni, Jhong, Tetang, Chusang, Mustang Gate and other places in Waragung Mukti area. In Lomanthang, the seven hundred year old palace, cave, monastery, mane and chorten of the Mustang king can be seen. In Loghekar Damodarkund Rural Municipality, there are original traditional settlements that reflect the local culture, including Loghekar Gumba, Charang Gumba, Dhakmar Red Pahad built by Guru Padyasambhava.
