Those who have been closely watching Renuka Nagarkote for the past few months were not surprised when she was named the 'Most Valuable Player' of the Four Nations Cup. But Renuka herself? "I did not believe that I would be the best player of the competition," was his reply.

What Renuka once enjoyed, now her playing life is over, she will not move forward. But the same midfielder is now the most reliable player of the Nepali women's national football team. Renuka is also one of the players who has played continuously for the longest time in Nepali women's football.

Nepal's first international women's football final was the 2010 South Asian Games (SAG). This tournament was held in Bangladesh. Then the final of the Four Nations Cup was 13th. Renuka was a witness to that first final as well, and the current final as well. She was just 15 when she played for Bangladesh.

Since then, there have been many ups and downs in his playing life. His struggle with injury is a long story. But every time she has proved herself to be excellent. She is called the 'comeback queen'. So she can be an inspiration for many female athletes. He is not a very popular player. But she has contributed so much to Nepali women's football that she is more than an 'unsung hero', secretly singing.

After the final defeat against Myanmar, when she appeared before the media, her voice was very soft, she was very emotional. She said, 'Sahai is feeling bad, it's been so many years since we played for the country, we had a great desire to win gold for the country, that's why we played for that. We have not been able to give that yet. We also worked hard.' But nothing like that. Not happening. A degree is not a standard. What Renuka has done so far for Nepali women's football is incredible.

Renuka's husband Abhishek Ghising Lama had planned to give a gift to Renuka hoping that Nepal would win in the final. The gift was a gold ring. But Nepal did not become the winner in the final, Myanmar shocked everyone. So even Lama did not dare to give that ring to Renuka. Later, he put the ring on many people's wrists. Maybe that's why Renu was so emotional after the finale in front of the media.

To understand Renuka's game life, you have to go to Rautahat, you have to go back to Chandrapur. As everyone knows, this is the place, which is called the hub of Nepali women's football players. From there, the most national players have come out. Like many others, she also stepped into football by playing with boys.

'Comeback Queen' Renuka

Renuka's age is probably around 11 years. Chandrapur football coach Sher Bahadur Darnal was going door to door looking for female players. Initially, Renuka was not even allowed to play from home. Later she started playing even though she was crying. Gradually the family also started helping. She got into the national team while playing in Rautahat. His journey in the national team has spanned almost two decades.

In 2016, she became the captain of the Nepali team. Renuka was equally distressed by the injury. Two years ago, during preparations for the Hanzhou Asian Games, he injured his collarbone. That is why he had to undergo surgery. Missed a lot of games.

then returned to the national team with equal efforts but could not get a regular place. She did not get the best support from the coach. The current coach Rajendra Tamang also asked him to work twice as hard, because so much effort was needed to match the new and young players.

Renuka also did this work. "Now I feel like I got the fruits of that hard work," she says, "Whenever I came back to the team free from injury and didn't get regular opportunities, I thought, now my playing life will end." I may not be able to play now. It seemed that even the coach did not give him a chance without being able to play. But it's not. I worked hard and played according to the coach's words.

She plays for APF in domestic football. APF was the champion in the ANFA Women's League that ended some time ago. One particular player had a lot of contribution in that and that was also Renuka.

APF coach Jeevesh Pandey considers her to be the best player in Nepali women's football. Sooner or later, Nepal will have a big success in women's football as well. When that time comes, no one will be able to forget the contribution made by a player like Renuka.
