A blood transfusion center has been put into operation at the Salyan District Hospital, thanks to the activities of the Salyan District Health Office and local youth.
A few years ago, the Nepal Red Cross Society Salyan had constructed a three-room building at a cost of Rs 2 million on the premises of the District Health Office and District Hospital Salyan to operate a blood transfusion center. Despite the construction of the building, the Red Cross was unable to operate the blood transfusion center due to various problems. Now, the District Hospital has brought the blood transfusion center into operation in the same building with the active participation of youth.
After bringing the blood transfusion center into operation, it will be easier for patients and pregnant women who need treatment and surgery at the District Hospital. Earlier, if blood was needed, relatives of the patient and health workers were forced to contact the person with the same blood group through social media and phone and arrange it.
Head of the Health Service Office Salyan, Dr. Arjun Budha Magar, said that now the compulsion to refer patients due to lack of blood has ended. Even though pregnant women with complex problems have been undergoing surgery at the District Hospital for a decade, they had been suffering in need of blood.
He informed that the District Hospital Salyan, which was established in 2044 BS, had 15 beds, but now it is providing services with 40 beds. He said that the hospital consumes 8 to 12 units of blood per month and if there is excess blood collected at the blood transfusion center, it can be sent elsewhere.
Initiatives have been taken with the provincial and federal governments to manage the blood transfusion center, and all 10 local levels of the district have also expressed their commitment to cooperate.
