There has been an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting the Kapilvastu Museum in Tilaurakot, which has a collection of archaeological and historical materials. Most of the tourists from Thailand, Sri Lanka and Myanmar have come to the museum, which is located near the Tilaurakot temple.

Compared to the previous year, the number of foreign tourists visiting the museum has increased by 2 times. The natives have decreased.

Last year 081/82, 2 thousand 758 foreign tourists visited the museum, 1 thousand 997 from SAARC countries and 761 from third countries. In the previous year 080/81, 1,137 foreign tourists visited the museum, including 613 from SAARC countries and 524 from third countries. Similarly, in 081/82, 2 thousand 642 Nepali students and 3 thousand 934 natives were observed, while in 080/81, 3 thousand 578 Nepali students and 3 thousand 942 natives were observed.

According to Shankar Dhital, the guide of the museum, the tourism sector seems to be going well due to the increase of foreign tourists twice as much as the previous year. However, he said that the main reason for the decline in Nepali tourists is the deterioration of the Butwal-Narayanghat road section.

'This road should be made fast. After that, the domestic tourists will increase," he said, "Now plans and programs to extend the stay of foreign and domestic tourists are also necessary. Locals complain that tourists are not able to visit the museum due to lack of publicity.

Lord Gautama Buddha, his father and other historical, archeological and cultural items are collected here. The museum has a collection of pottery, polished gray bear, ABP, red bear, punchmark silver coins and various flints.

"There was a problem when the museum building was dilapidated," said Shanti Sherma, the head of the museum, "After the new building was ready, tourists have increased." The Department of Archeology has constructed a new modern museum building at Ramghat at a cost of 4332 million rupees. In the

museum, there are various deity idols of Vishnu, Shiva, Parvati, Surya Varaha, human idols of various shapes with Bahmi script, including currency, ornaments and weapons. Raja Prasad of King Suddhodan and Tilaurakot, Dhamanihwa Stupa, Nigrodharam (Kudan), Araurakot and Sisahnia, where Buddha spent 29 years of his youth, and other archaeological objects are collected in the museum. Foreign tourists come here especially from Buddhist countries.

Senior archeologist Vasant Bidari said that Buddhists do not get merit unless they step here. Phra Rajabodhividesh Vajirashuddhi, head monk of Royal Thai Vihara Lumbini, said that peace and self-satisfaction can only be achieved after reciting the sutras in the ruins of the main palace next to the museum, the childhood life of Lord Gautama Buddha at the eastern and western gates.

Archaeologists say that because there are many archaeological sites related to the life of Buddha, foreign tourists come here more.
