Krishna Bahadur Gharti of Rolpa took office as the fourth provincial chief of Lumbini province on Friday. He took office in the office of the provincial chief in Butwal.
Although it is mentioned in the constitution that the term of office of the provincial head is 5 years, Gharti is the fourth provincial head of Lumbini province during the 7-year period of implementation of federalism. Earlier, Umakant Jha, Dharmanath Yadav and Amik Sherchan became the state chiefs.
On January 3, 2074, the government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba appointed Jha as the first provincial chief. After the change of government in October 2076, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli removed Jha and made Yadav the head of the state. After that, the Congress-Maoist coalition government removed Yadav and made Sherchan the state chief on 13 July 2078.
In the federal government, the government changes according to the party and the Prime Minister, according to the party's division, now after the Congress-UML government, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli removed Sherchan and appointed Gharti. Jha who became the state chief of Lumbini came from Congress, Yadav from UML and Sherchan from Maoist background. The present Gharti is a leader of Congress Rolpa who has been the party president for a long time.
Gharti took oath before President Rachamandra Paudel on Thursday. On Friday, Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chetnarayan Acharya, Minister Bhumishwar Dhakal, Provincial Chief Minister's Office Secretary Bed Prasad Kharel, office staff welcomed him on Friday.
After assuming office, Gharti said that he will study the rights and laws given by the constitution and act on everyone's advice and suggestions.
