Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Madi Rural Municipality of Kaski have given a local holiday on Tuesday on the occasion of 'Thonte' festival which has historical and cultural significance of Gurung (Tamu) community.
In this regard, the rural municipalities issued separate public notices and informed that on Tuesday, all activities except essential services will be closed in government and community offices, ward offices, health institutions and schools within their areas.
Annapurna Rural Municipality President Bishnu Bahadur KC, Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality President Min Bahadur Gurung and Chief Administrative Officer of Madi Rural Municipality Dhanendra Bhujel have mentioned that leave has been given in honor of the original cultural festival of the Gurung community.
Thonte festival is an ancient cultural tradition celebrated in the Gurung community to protect the settlement from natural disasters, epidemics and other disasters. The local government has the legal right to grant local holidays for the protection and promotion of cultural and religious festivals within its area.
