The district has produced cardamom worth over Rs 1.35 billion. This year, 542.64 metric tons of cardamom were produced in 1,064 hectares of the district.

According to Deepak Chauhan, an agricultural economist at the Agricultural Knowledge Center Khotang, 13,566 mana of cardamom has been produced this year. Chauhan said that cardamom worth 1.35 billion 6.6 billion rupees has been produced at the rate of 100,000 rupees per mana.

Baljit Rai of Sawaktahare, Khotehang Rural Municipality-3 has earned 5.65 million rupees from cardamom. Similarly, Ward Chairman Jeffer Rai of Sawaktahare has also earned 3.6 million rupees from cardamom. Ward Chairman Rai said that cardamom worth 70 million rupees has been exported from that ward alone this year.

45.57 metric tons of cardamom have been produced in Khotehang Rural Municipality. Roshan Poudel, Information Officer of the Rural Municipality, said that cardamom was produced in 110.2 hectares of the rural municipality. Poudel said that 42.08 metric tons of cardamom were produced in this municipality last year.

The highest amount of cardamom was produced in Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality. According to Krishna Basnet, head of the agriculture branch of the municipality, 445 metric tons were produced in 366 hectares in Kepilasgadhi. Basnet said that this would be worth 222 million. Last year, cardamom worth 250 million rupees was exported in the said municipality.

Hemant Raut, head of the agriculture branch, said that 22 metric tons of cardamom were produced in 80 hectares in Sakela Rural Municipality. Similarly, LB Magar, head of the agriculture branch, said that about 310 maunds were produced in Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality. Magar said that the municipality would earn about 30 million rupees from cardamom.

The municipality has stated that 9.5 metric tons were produced in 21 hectares in Aiselukhark Rural Municipality. Farmers have sold cardamom to contractors for between Rs 85,000 and Rs 105,000 per kg this year, said Prem Kumar Rai, central secretary of the Nepal Cardamom Traders Federation. Rai said that due to the compulsion to trade Nepal's cardamom under the Indian trademark, the price fluctuates depending on the favor of Indian traders.
