Most of the roads in the hill district of Panchthar have been blocked due to landslides due to rain since Wednesday evening.

The road connecting No. 6 Khabarbe and Bhedetar through Ravi from Ranke Bazar in Panchthar has been blocked. This road has been completely blocked since Friday afternoon due to landslides on both sides of Panchthar and Dhankuta. According to the locals, a landslide has occurred in Deumai of Elam and Phalgunand of Panchthar on the border of Geli Bhanjyang.

Similarly, the Dhankuta section of the road was blocked when a landslide occurred between Danda Bazar in Dhankuta and No. 6 Bharba in Panchthar. Even though efforts are being made to remove the landslides on both sides and open the road, there has been a problem due to the continuous rains. A team led by village chairman Brijahang Angdembe has reached the landslide-affected area to remove the obstacle towards Panchthar.

Similarly, the Tamor Corridor connecting Panchthar and Taplejung districts from Dharan via Moolghat in Dhankuta is also not running. Under the corridor, due to flooding in the border canal of Dhankuta and Panchthar, Dharan could not be crossed from Panchthar Taplejung and Taplejung Panchthar through Mulghat to Dharan.

Similarly, the Oyam Changthapu section of Panchthar under Madhyapahari highway is also blocked. Under the said road, the road became blocked when the river started flowing after crossing the level of the diversion made in Dobhane river of Yangwarak-2.

Since then, the road leading to Falelung rural municipality center Thakepung through headquarters Nagin, Sidin has been blocked after the flood in Hewa River crossed the level of the diversion. Mahendrahang Jabegu, the vice president of the rural municipality, said that the traffic was stopped after the water started flowing over the diversion from Thursday evening at Ghumauntar located on the border of Falelung 3 and 7. According to him, the level of diversion was crossed after the Hewa river was flooded.

After the flood that occurred on 2nd of June 2080 swept away the bridges of Lumangdin and Mondary Ghats of Dobhan in Yangwarak and Hewa River in Falelung, the local government made a diversion by collecting labor donations and financial support from the citizens. On Monday, the diversion of the ghat was completed on 1st May. Until a concrete bridge is built on that river, there is a situation where the water from the diversion has to be diverted and crossed.

Chief of District Police Office Panchthar Hemant Bhandari said that although the rain caused material damage in some places, there was no human loss. He said that especially the citizens living in the coastal areas of Tamor and Hewa Rivers have been asked to be safe.

As the risk of floods and landslides increased, schools in Falgunand, Phalelung, Tumbeva, Kummayak and Miklajung Rural Municipality along with Fidim Municipality of the district have given holidays.
