Jumla has been declared as a literate district. Devendra Bahadur Shahi, a member of the Karnali State Assembly, declared Jumla as a literate district by pouring water on the saplings. Jumla has been declared a literate district by organizing a program organized by the Literacy Campaign District Coordination Committee.
According to Ramesh Bahadur Malla, Head of Education Development and Coordination Unit, 96.7 percent of citizens in Jumla are literate. According to the national literacy standards, there is a provision that a literate district can be declared if the literacy rate is above 95 percent of the population in the age group of 15 to 60 years. It is mentioned in the data that more than 69 thousand 477 citizens are literate out of 72 thousand 3 hundred 19 population in the age group of 15 to 60 in Jumla.
After all 8 municipalities including one municipality in the district were declared literate, the meeting of the Literate Mission District Coordinating Committee of Jumla held on the 9th of November decided to declare Jumla as a literate district. The main slogan was 'Promotion of Multilingual Education, Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace'. Provincial MP Shahi said that not only by declaring the district as a literate district, but also by starting the campaign to educate all Jumla residents. He said, "It is good to have a literate district, but there is a need to create an educated district." For which everyone's hand is necessary.'
He said that Jumla was declared a literate district based on the declaration of the local level of the district coordination committee of literacy campaign. He also praised all those who are dedicated to the campaign of making a literate district. In the
program, people, organizations and institutions who supported the literacy campaign were honored with certificates. Political parties, people from education-related bodies and people's representatives congratulated them for being successful in declaring a literate district. They emphasized that after the declaration of a literate district, they should proceed with the concept of an educated Jumla.
Literate District Declaration Program Students from government and private schools also gathered. They presented various cultural programs.
