The Nepali Congress's exile organization, the Public Relations Committee, is preparing to hold a convention in the US after 12 years.

The public relations convention in the US has not been held since 2014. A new leadership will be elected from the convention that has been stalled for 12 years due to disputes within the party. The convention to be held in the DC metro area of the US on August 14-16 (Shrawan 29-31) is expected to end the long-pending leadership change crisis.

The Congress established the Public Relations Committee in the US from the first convention in 2007-2008. Then, the second convention was held in the state of Texas in September 2014. The leadership formed under the chairmanship of Anand Bista from the second convention in 2014 has been in place for 12 years. Bista resigned as the chairman after running for the House of Representatives from Kailali Constituency No. 4 last Falgun. After Bista resigned as the chairman, who had been in the leadership for 12 years, more pressure has been created for the convention.

The convention preparation committee has decided the date and venue in consultation with the chapters in the states of America in accordance with the directives and statutes of the Congress Central Committee with the aim of holding the convention that has been stalled for a long time. Member Secretary and central member Gautam Dahal informed that 800 central representatives have been selected after holding conventions of 26 chapters in various states of America before the date of the convention was fixed.

‘The Public Relations Committee has 4,000 members in the US. 800 central representatives have been selected from those members after holding conventions of chapters in 26 states,’ Dahal, head of the publicity department, told Kantipur. ‘The selected central representatives will participate in the election process. This time we are busy preparing to hold the convention.’

A 30-member convention preparation committee has been formed under the coordination of Dhananjay Narsingh KC, coordinator of the convention preparation committee, informed Media Chief Ramjeevi Pantha. According to him, a five-member election committee led by Bhakta Thapa and a legislative committee coordinated by Binod Bhatta have been formed to conduct the convention in a fair and orderly manner. Panth said that various subcommittees including finance, publicity, management, volunteer, and cultural are making necessary preparations for the convention.
