The Nepali Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has conducted an interaction on labor awareness and safe employment targeting Nepali workers working in Abu Dhabi.
Nepali workers working in various companies in the UAE participated in the program organized at the embassy premises. At the program, the labor attaché of the embassy, Pankaj Lamichhane, gave a presentation on the rights and safety of workers. He informed about the rules to be followed while working in a company, precautions to be taken during foreign employment, renewal of labor permit, use of social security fund and facilities provided by the Nepalese government for Nepalese working abroad.
He also urged to keep personal documents including passport, Emirates ID, worker's identity card safe and to be vigilant to avoid cybercrime and financial fraud.
It was informed at the program that applications related to search, rescue, management, compensation and labor assistance abroad can be registered through the online system operated by the Consular Services Department of the Government of Nepal.
Third Secretary of the Embassy, Bimlesh Kumar Mishra, provided information on passport and consular services. The workers participating in the program pointed out the need to conduct such awareness programs regularly.
The participants felt that the Government of Nepal should take further initiatives to ensure minimum wage, compliance with labor standards, and respect and protection of the labor, skills, and contributions of Nepali workers employed abroad.
The program also provided practical information on 'First Aid' on how to provide first aid in emergencies that occur in daily life and at the workplace. The program was attended by Nepali Ambassador to the UAE, Tej Bahadur Chhetri, and diplomatic staff of the Embassy.
