The Association of Nepali Origin (ANO) has demanded to connect Nepalis of Nepali origin around the world with Nepal and to arrange for an identity card with Nepali identity.

The ANO delegation made the demand after meeting Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma on Tuesday. The delegation, including ANO International President Dilli Adhikari, Vice President Sushil Panta, General Secretary Chudamani Bhattarai, Nepal Chapter President Krishna Prasad Sapkota, and others, submitted the demand to Minister Sharma.

The letter also demands to arrange identity cards for citizens of Nepali origin who have been scattered around the world for generations and to set up a separate desk for 'Nepali Origin' in the arrival hall of Tribhuvan International Airport.

In addition, the ANO has demanded to protect the human rights of the nearly seven thousand Bhutanese refugees remaining in various camps in eastern Nepal and to manage them properly from a humanitarian perspective, the ANO said in a statement.

On that occasion, Minister Sharma expressed the view that the Nepal government would take ANO's demands seriously as they were of a nature to help expand Nepal's identity. He shared his experience of meeting people of Nepali origin who had left their homeland generations ago while serving in the military and expressed confidence that a meaningful campaign would be launched to connect them with their ancestral homeland.

ANO's International President Adhikari said that if the Nepal government becomes supportive of Nepali citizens living in the world, their knowledge, skills and large-scale investment could be brought to Nepal.

ANO Vice President and Senior Advocate Sushil Kumar Panta and General Secretary Chudamani Bhattarai informed that ANO has moved forward by connecting Nepali mind and Nepaliness and urged the government to consider this issue in the interest of the nation.
