The Ministry of Home Affairs has warned that those driving without a valid driving license in Qatar, one of the major labor destinations for Nepalis, could face imprisonment and heavy fines.

The ministry has issued a public awareness message through social media, stating that driving without a license is a serious traffic offense and that it poses a direct risk to road safety. The ministry has also clarified that such an offense cannot be resolved through mediation or agreement.

According to Article 94 of Qatar's Traffic Law, if someone is found to be driving without a license, there is a provision for imprisonment for one month to three years, a fine of a minimum of 10,000 to a maximum of 50,000 Qatari riyals, or one of these two punishments. According to the ministry, this rule applies to people who do not have a valid Qatari driving license. However, in the case of drivers who do not have their card with them during the inspection, even if they have a valid license, there is a provision to confirm the license digitally through the 'Metrash' app.

The ministry has stated that such a public awareness campaign has been launched with the aim of reducing road accidents and developing a responsible driving culture.
