Santosh Shrestha, president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association Spain, has said that a mobile passport camp should be sent to Spain immediately.

He said that the Passport Department should immediately send a mobile passport camp to use the opportunity given by the Spanish government to document undocumented migrant workers. ‘The number of Nepalis who are currently here without passports and whose passports have expired is large,’ he said. ‘The manpower available at the Nepali Embassy in Spain has not been able to address this. A special team should come from Kathmandu for this.’

It is estimated that about 50,000 Nepalis have arrived in Spain. This includes a large number of Nepalis living in Spain without documents on visas from countries including Romania, Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria. Spain has been documenting them for two decades by issuing residence permits to address them as well. This plan will be implemented from April to the end of June. It will also include the children of applicants living in Spain.

According to the Ministry of Social Security, Immigration and Inclusion, those who entered and resided in Spain before 31 December 2025 will be able to apply. Those who can provide proof of having resided in Spain for at least 5 consecutive months at the time of application, have no criminal record, are not considered a threat to public safety, and have submitted their asylum application before December 31, 2025, will be eligible for registration.
