1,300 Nepalese have been included in the list to be returned in the first phase after US President Donald Trump implemented the plan to deport immigrants living without official documents. According to America's 'Immigration and Customs Enforcement' (ICE), 1445 thousand 549 people, including Nepalis, are ready to be deported.
According to ICE, the list includes those who have received final orders for deportation by November 24, 2024 but have not been arrested. ICE has not released any data on whether Nepalis on the list have been arrested/arrested and deported/not deported. The first phase list includes Nepalis who entered the US after June 24, 2015 and have been ordered to leave the US.
2015 Most of the Nepalis who came to the US before June 24 and received deportation orders are under the protection of 'Temporary Protected Status' (TPS). Although more than 3,500 Nepalis have been ordered to be deported from the court, only about 2,000 remain under the protection of TPS. The rest are on ICE's list.
ICE said that in the first phase, those who are completely undocumented, involved in criminal activities and have been ordered by a court to leave the country will be arrested. If the TPS protection is revoked, more than 2 thousand more Nepalis will be included in the deportation list.
The Nepali Embassy in Washington DC has said that it has not received any official information about this. Yugraj Pandey, the 'Economic Consul' of the embassy, said that there was no information about the Nepalese being arrested or deported. He also said that the Embassy does not have the exact number of Nepalis living in America without official documents.
The data has been released that there are 10 million immigrants living in the US without official documents. According to Pew Research, the most of them are 4 million from Mexico. El Salvador is second with 750,000 and India is third with 725,000.
Similarly, Guatemala has 675,000, Honduras has 525,000 and Venezuela has 270,000. The state of California has the highest number of such immigrants at 1.8 million. There are 1.6 million in Texas, 1.2 million in Florida, 650,000 in New York, 475,000 in New Jersey, and 400,000 in Illinois. Trump signed an executive order to return undocumented immigrants after taking the oath of office.
