As Australia has tightened its educational policy, its impact has also been seen on Nepali students who come to study in Australia. According to the data released by the government recently, the rejection rate of visa applications of Nepali students has increased significantly compared to last year.

With the aim of making the international students coming for higher education studies organized and practical, Australia is announcing various new rules after Corona.

The government has already announced various rules not only to reduce the overall number of students, but also to increase the student visa application fee and reduce the facilities provided. The impact of which has directly affected Nepali students who are third in the number of Australian international students.

According to the data of the Ministry of Education here, around 57 thousand Nepali students are still studying in Australia. But this number has started to decrease annually. According to the recently published data by the Ministry of Education, last year, about 23 thousand people received student visas from Nepal for study, this year this number has decreased to 11 thousand. According to

statistics, last year about 17 thousand got visa for higher education study, this number has decreased to 8 thousand this year, while the number of students coming for technical education (VET) study was 1 thousand 56 last year, only 26 people have been given visa this year. Australia has been encouraging foreign students coming to study rather than professional education to the human resources here for necessary higher education studies.

There has been no significant decrease in visas given to spouses or husbands of students coming to study higher education in Australia. According to the data, last year 4 thousand 500 people got this visa, this year 3 thousand 230 people got this visa.  After the increase in the rejection of

visas, there has been a significant decrease in the number of applications given by Nepali students for studying in Australia. Last year, around 25,000 people applied for visas for higher education, and this number has decreased to 15,000. Last year, about 4,000 Nepali students applied for technical education, but this year, this number is only 254.

According to Rupak Bertaula, who has been working in the field of migration and student counseling for the past decade, there has been a direct impact on the number of Nepali students with the tightening of Australia's immigration rules. He says that the number of Nepali students applying for studies in Australia has decreased since the rate of rejection of visa applications of Nepali students has increased recently.

"When students started getting rejected for Australian visas, they started choosing other countries as an alternative, and even the student counselors and migration agents stopped favoring Australia as a top priority," he told Kantipur.

He said that the rules being changed by the government are compatible with the environment and conditions here, but its direct impact is on international students including Nepali students who want to come to Australia for studies.

According to the businessman in this area, the application rate has decreased due to the loss of investment due to the loss of investment for the student visa application in Australia. Currently, the visa application fee for studying in Australia is only 1,600 dollars (about 145,000 rupees).

which has been increased from 710 dollars just a few weeks ago.  Students coming to Australia for higher education studies must pay a fee of at least 1.4 million to 1.8 million per semester (6 months). Many Nepalese students are facing problems due to housing and employment problems seen in the recent past.
