Parewa Waterfall in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-3, Saipa, Udayapur has recently become known as an attractive destination for domestic tourists. Located in the lap of dense forests and huge mountains, this waterfall has also become a center of religious faith along with its natural beauty.
According to Ward Chairman Manoj Karki, the Parewa Waterfall, which cascades from the lap of the mountain, is about 90 feet high. The waterfall, the surrounding greenery and the peaceful natural surroundings have attracted tourists to visit here. Recently, the number of domestic tourists coming from other districts as well as locals to view the waterfall has also increased.
For the convenience of tourists, stairs and an observation point have been constructed to reach the waterfall. Ward Chairman Karki said that the necessary infrastructure is being expanded to view the natural scenery of the waterfall. 'A railing has also been installed at the stairs to reach the waterfall and the place to view the waterfall,' he said.
Along with its natural attractions, this area is also connected to religious faith. Local Shukra Bahadur Thapa Magar said that the locals have deep faith in the shrine located at the top of the waterfall. It is believed that a powerful Jhakri lived there in the mythological period and its divine power still exists. The local community has continued the tradition of offering roosters in the name of the gods. He says that it is customary to offer roosters in the name of the gods before undertaking any new or big work. Local Ghaman Bahadur Thapa Magar says that it is believed that if a childless couple makes a vow, they will have children and various wishes will be fulfilled.
Since it is difficult to reach the old Mahadevthan located in a steep place, a temple has been built at a flat place below and a large statue of Shiva has been installed next to it. To make religious and tourist activities more organized, the work of constructing structures including parks, rest areas has also been taken forward.
Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality is developing tourism infrastructure by prioritizing the Parewa Waterfall. According to him, various plans are being implemented for the protection, promotion and creation of a tourist-friendly environment for the waterfall. So far, about 5.4 million rupees have been invested in the area by the rural municipality and the provincial government.
However, the road to the waterfall is still challenging. The problem of road damage is recurring, especially during the rainy season, making it difficult for both locals and tourists to travel.
With its natural beauty, religious significance, and high tourism potential, Parewa Waterfall can be established as an important tourist destination in eastern Nepal if easy road access and additional infrastructure are developed, says social activist Rama Magar. Locals believe that with the development of tourism, the trade, agriculture, and the overall local economy of the area will also gain new momentum.
