The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has requested not to sell or distribute prohibited goods. Reminding that there are legal provisions under the Export and Import (Control) Act, 1956 to prohibit or control the export or import of any goods, the department has cautioned the concerned parties not to sell or distribute prohibited goods without authorization.
Importers, stockists, and sellers, who are punishable by law, have been notified to operate their trade and business in compliance with the responsibilities and conditions prescribed by law.
The department has clarified that if any illegal activities are found, action will be taken in accordance with the Export (Control) Act, 1956, the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and other prevailing laws. Similarly, the department has intensified monitoring and inspection to maintain transparency in the market. The department has stated that necessary directives and actions have been taken in the market as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2018 and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2019.
On Monday, nine different business firms in Kathmandu were monitored. Those firms were given corrective instructions. The department has clarified that it has been regularly monitoring the market in the presence of consumer rights activists and local stakeholders.
