Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has urged Nepalis living abroad to remain confident in the government and party’s belief that “once a Nepali, always a Nepali.”
Addressing a conference organized by young Nepali entrepreneurs in Australia virtually on Saturday, he said this. “We are clear in our conviction that once a Nepali, always a Nepali. Rest assured, once a Nepali, always a Nepali,” said Finance Minister Wagle.
He also stated that Nepalis living abroad are goodwill ambassadors for the government’s development and investment expansion. Finance Minister Wagle said that the new government, formed with an incredible public mandate in Nepal, is working to lay the foundation for good governance and open the doors to economic development, and that the cooperation of Nepalis abroad is essential in this effort.
“If you look at the work done by the government in the past one hundred days, we have made a remarkable start with high integrity in good governance, providing government services to the people with ease, and steering the ship of the economy,” said Finance Minister Wagle. “From the leadership of the government to the ministers, everyone is working while standing on the pillar of high morality. The initiation of steps to steer the ship of economic governance for meritocracy, high morality in leadership, zero tolerance for corruption, and economic advancement is the beginning of the golden reform of the past decade.”
He said that through the budget, the government has opened new beginnings in tax, revenue, and budget distribution for the revival of the economy, as well as opened doors to new investment opportunities, and that the government expects investment in Nepal from Nepalis living abroad.
Stating that the government will facilitate the repatriation of investment returns from Nepal, he urged Nepalis in Australia to take the initiative to bring their own or foreign investment to Nepal.
“Important doors have been opened to facilitate the diaspora in bringing investment to Nepal. You are our goodwill ambassadors. You are the best facilitators to bring your legally earned and foreign investment to Nepal,” said the Finance Minister. “On behalf of the government, we have put forward transformative concepts such as NRN bonds, offshore bonds, and alternative financing mechanisms for the expansion of your investment in Nepal.”
He said that this facilitation has been done for the revival of the economy from outside government accounts, and urged them to clearly state what further facilitation the government should provide.
Stating that Nepalis, who make up about one percent of Australia’s total population, are an asset to Nepal’s prosperity, he also urged everyone to unite and cooperate in the interest of nation-building.
