Police have seized 7,700 units of vape (electronic cigarettes) worth about 26.95 million rupees that were illegally imported through the Tatopani border crossing.
According to the District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, a team from the Area Police Office, Bahrabise, Khagdal, Bahrabise Municipality-3, on Monday, based on a confidential tip-off, found the vape smuggled in while checking a Bolero vehicle bearing the registration number Province 03-001 Cha 1229 coming from Tatopani to Bahrabise.
According to Police Inspector Krishna Khadka of the Area Police Office, Bahrabise, the estimated market value of the 7,700 units of vape seized is 26.95 million rupees. He said that the driver of the Bolero, Ram Kumar Shrestha, 36, a resident of Jugal Rural Municipality-4, has been arrested. The arrested person, the seized goods and the vehicle have been handed over to the Tatopani Customs Office for further investigation and necessary legal action. According to the police, illegal transportation of goods by evading customs damages the state's revenue and also encourages organized crime, so surveillance has been increased against such activities.
