The chemical fertilizers allocated to 26 municipalities in 9 districts of the Far Western Province have not been collected so far. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has stated that despite repeated information to the concerned bodies, they have not shown interest in collecting the fertilizers.

According to the latest decision of the ministry, there are statistics on agricultural materials and salt trading that local levels in Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajura, Bajhang and Doti districts have not collected the specified amount of fertilizers. In addition, Godavari Municipality of Kailali has not collected 21,230 kg, Gauriganj Municipality has collected 6,690 kg, Janaki Rural Municipality has collected 10,250 kg and Dhangadhi Metropolitan City has collected 21,500 kg of chemical fertilizers.

'Some municipalities in Kanchanpur have also not collected chemical fertilizers.' Bhimdatta Municipality has not collected 1 lakh 6,800 kg and Bedkot Municipality 1 lakh 6,400 kg of fertilizer, the ministry said in a statement. "Among the five local levels of Achham, Sanphebagar Municipal Corporation, Bannigarh Jayagarh Rural Municipality and Kamal Bazaar Municipality are yet to collect the fertilizer." The ministry said that farmers are facing problems with fertilizer after the relevant agencies have not transported the fertilizer even though the main season of paddy sowing has begun. Ramkrishna Shrestha, Joint Secretary and Chief of the Agriculture Development Division of the ministry, has warned that if the municipalities do not collect the fertilizer immediately, they will sell the fertilizer directly to farmers through the depots of the Agricultural Materials Company Limited and Salt Trading Corporation. The ministry said that the fertilizer has not reached the farmers on time due to the lack of necessary coordination in the collection and distribution process of chemical fertilizers by the local levels. According to the ministry, the delay in fertilizer distribution has increased the risk of farmers being affected as the annual paddy sowing season approaches.

According to the ministry, out of the quota currently available to the Far Western Province, 52 percent of the chemical fertilizers available through agricultural material companies will be distributed to Kailali and 32 percent to Kanchanpur. The ministry has stated that the remaining 16 percent of the fertilizer has been allocated to local levels in Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajura, Bajhang, Achham and Doti, among other districts. However, stakeholders in these districts have not been able to take the fertilizer.

'Of the fertilizer distributed through the Salt Trading Corporation in the Far Western Province, 34 percent is in Kailali and 54 percent is in Kanchanpur. Although there is an arrangement to distribute the remaining 12 percent of the fertilizer to local levels in other districts, the fertilizer has not been collected from those districts as expected,' the ministry said. 'In the Far Western Province, 43 municipalities have been selling chemical fertilizers. Of these, 17 municipalities have taken it, but 26 municipalities have not been able to take it.'
