Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that although the budget presented by the government for the upcoming fiscal year appears large in size, it is small in proportion to the gross domestic product (GDP).

At a press conference held at the Finance Ministry, he said that the projected GDP for the current fiscal year is around Rs 7.458 trillion and the budget is only 28.5 percent of it.

He claimed that the budget has been brought in a way that is conducive to the state's implementation capacity, breaking the past trend of the budget size exceeding 30 percent in proportion to GDP.

Wagle said that the actual size of the GDP may fluctuate somewhat in the coming days and that this will be further evaluated in the mid-term review. He said that special attention has been paid to the state's resources, capacity and implementation aspects while determining the size of the budget.
