The government has allocated a budget of Rs 101.95 billion for the health sector for the coming fiscal year. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said that the budget has been allocated to provide quality health services to all citizens. A budget of Rs 15 billion has been allocated for the health insurance program. The health insurance program was forced to close the insurance program run in private and government hospitals due to the financial crisis. A budget of Rs 13.15 billion has been allocated for the health social security program.

The budget statement mentions that the capacity of Bir Hospital and Kirtipur Hospital will be increased for burn treatment. ‘We will establish a burn treatment unit in the federal hospital,’ said Finance Minister Wagle.

He said that free treatment of cancer in children will be provided in government hospitals. It has been announced that air ambulance service will be operated in remote areas in Karnali Province and the night duty allowance of nursing personnel will be doubled. The allowance of women volunteers has been increased by 50 percent. It has been announced that the construction of 336 basic hospitals whose construction has begun will be completed within 3 years.

Finance Minister Wagle said that an allocation of Rs 5.9 billion has been allocated for the construction and operation of basic hospitals. The budget mentions that telemedicine services will be expanded in Karnali and Sudurpaschim. The government has announced that a kidney transplant hospital and trauma center will be established and operated in Madhesh Province.
